Heels are in fashion not the kind who never call, the bottom of your foot kind. Now Rose Lee Beverly Hills, a fledgling company in California, has introduced a line of shoes with interchangeable heels. Although the heel swapping idea started as a way to let high heel addicts give their feet a rest, it has taken on a life of its own as a new way to accessorize.
Before starting Rose Lee, Rose Lewis was a nurse practitioner in the office of Dr. Fred Swerdloff, an orthopedic surgeon in Beverly Hills.
Eight different heels, in heights ranging from 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches and in various colors and decorations (rhinestones, filigree, etc.), are available. Prices range from $5 to $25. Heels are changed by using a special key to loosen a brass screw concealed beneath the insole, then screwing in the new heel. The switch takes about 20 seconds.
The shoes are available at boutiques across the country. Call 800 444 HEELS for a location near you.
“I think people will have a lot of fun with them,” Lewis says. “You’ll be able to change to a red heel if you’re wearing a red scarf or dress up a plain black pump with a rhinestone heel.”
