Jude Fernandes moves up as executive director, will oversee strategy, and joins the agency as president, Mudra, Mumbai
The Mudra Group is all set to start the year with a bang. Two major changes have been made in its senior echelon. Jude Fernandes, till now president, Mudra, Mumbai, has been elevated to the post of executive director. (better known as ‘Onnie’ in the ad industry) has been appointed president, Mudra, Mumbai, instead of Jude.
Onnie is an experienced advertising hand and has had successful stints at Everest, Leo Burnett, Bates Worldwide (then Clarion) and Contract. In fact, he quit Everest Brand Solutions just a few months ago.
Says Madhukar Kamath, chief executive officer and managing director of the Mudra Group, “Undoubtedly, for us, Jude is like a rock; he is a true leader. Jude’s promotion is a recognition of his fabulous work over the years,
particularly as the head of Mudra in Mumbai. It is also a statement of our aggressive growth plans, we need talent of his quality to help us define the group’s strategic direction, strengthen our offering to clients and improve our product.”Kamath adds, “As far as Onnie is concerned, he comes to us with an impeccable track record. I think he is an excellent advertising mind, a great account man and a terrific team leader. He is just the right guy to continue the good work Jude has done. I have great regard for Ani’s proven abilities in organisation building and I’m sure he’ll revel in the challenge of taking Mudra, Mumbai, to the top.”
Fernandes has welcomed this development and predicts some very aggressive growth for Mudra in the next few years. Says Fernandes, “My new role promises to be a lot of fun.” He will be taking on significant responsibilities, which include helping define the group’s strategic direction, strengthening Mudra’s offering to its clients and improving the product. Fernandes has been an advertising professional for almost 20 years now; of these, 14 have been spent at Mudra. Over the last decade, he has been a key player in building Mudra, Mumbai, into a formidable advertising operation, which now boasts of a bevy of businesses, including the Godrej Group, LIC, the Pantaloon Group,
SBI, Philips, Air India, HPCL, MTDC, Johnson and Reliance ADAG.
Onnie, on the other hand, started his career at Contract before moving to Bates, where he spent eight years. He then moved to Leo Burnett as client services director, overseeing Procter Gamble, Godrej Pillsbury, Heinz India and Diageo (then UDV). He was soon elevated as executive director and head of Leo Burnett, Mumbai. He joined Everest Brand Solutions as chief operating officer in November 2004. In the next 22 months, he worked towards building a whole new agency from scratch, very akin to re launching a brand new brand print, new purpose, new identity, new direction, new processes.
Onnie is happy and excited about the challenge of leading Mudra, Mumbai. He says,
“The agency already has numerous clients in its kitty. A couple of large ones are in the pipeline. I am looking forward to meeting this challenge.”
