A summer trial date has been set for a former AAU youth basketball coach charged with sex crimes for incidents involving female players in their teens. June 19. April 19.
Wolfe faces 55 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault in two separate cases involving two alleged victims between the ages of 15 and 17.
State’s Attorney Brian Bower told the judge he will use his discretion in deciding which case to try first.
He later told reporters the cases are “mirror images” of one another, but one of the cases may warrant a longer sentence upon conviction or he may find that one case might be easier to successfully prosecute.
Defense attorney Ed Piraino of Champaign said during the hearing he is still reviewing evidence provided him on compact discs,
DVDs and computer hard drives.
Piraino told the judge he has requested a meeting with Bower to make sure he has all of the state’s evidence against his client.
There was testimony during a bond hearing in November about the additional victim and about another incident which Bower said did not rise to the level of a criminal offense.
